Black lives matter. This shouldn’t need to be said, but it still does.
Over the past year, we’ve witnessed one of the largest waves of activism in modern American history. And yet, it’s as important as ever to say, specifically, that Black Lives Matter because Black lives are still among the most at risk in the United States and much of the world right now. Racial injustice has its roots in a racist society that was designed to disenfranchise Black people, Indigenous people, and people of color (BIPOC) in order to enrich people who hold white privilege. These systems haven’t gone away.
As such, we are continuing our commitment to anti-racism work as an organization both internally and externally.
We also commit to supporting others doing anti-racism work, with an emphasis on people of color.
The following are ways we are committed to amplifying the voices of anti-racism activists, organizations, and communication.
If you are a person of color who identifies as an activist in this area, or if your POC-owned or -led organization engages in anti-racism work, then Buffer would like to gift you a Publish Pro account for life. To date, we’ve gifted over 925 accounts and counting.

Internally, we’ve had many conversations around our role in fostering a more equitable and just future as a small business. We’re committed to sharing what we learn as we build a company approaching work from a fresh perspective. Historically this has meant transparently talking about culture, finances, and strategies. Today, this includes our anti-racism work. Silence, and the act of demanding it, perpetuates existing systems of privilege. We hope to normalize the work and responsibility of unpacking racism within ourselves and our companies through transparency.
We’ll continue to share our learnings on our Open Blog, our progress and failures toward creating a diverse team on our Diversity Dashboard, and will keep all salaries visible as a means of holding ourselves accountable in our shortcomings and make visible our steps toward progress.
We know that the injustices that Black people suffer in the US and much of the western world will not be solved over Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, or others. However, these platforms are a way for anti-racism activists to reach each other and a wider community. Social media can play a vital role in bringing this cause into the collective consciousness. Since we are an organization in the social media space, this is one way that we can directly support the individuals and organizations who are working to dismantle racism and white supremacy.
If you are a Black person or other person of color who identifies as an activist in this area, or your Black- or POC-owned or -led organization engages in anti-racism work, then Buffer would like to gift you a Publish Pro account for life.
